Research
The WhiteWater Head Impact Protection (WWHIP) Project was initiated in 2002 as co-sponsorship between Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health and Whitewater Research & Safety Institute, Inc.  The resultant, safer whitewater helmet prototype development was due to the efforts contributed by Dr Andrew Conn and a senior design team from the Johns Hopkins Mechanical Engineering Department, Chang Lee and Michael Corderio.  Detailed information can be found in the Johns Hopkins University press releases dated May 22, 2002, under Headlines@Hopkins.

The WRSI “Current” helmet, on the leading edge of development, is a superior multi-impact helmet primarily for use in a non-motorized water environment.  All components and systems integrated in the WRSI helmet are protected under US Patent No. 6,854,133.  It is the first whitewater helmet to ever be invented.  For additional information, go to www.google.com and search the phrase: “whitewater helmet turner”

Development
Whitewater Technology Associates, a Utah Limited Liability Company, doing business as Whitewater Research & Safety Institute, is the integral factor pertinent to the conceptual design, CAD computer design, prototyping, establishment and implementation of testing procedures, and conducting production oversight for the improvement in safety gear for all non-motorized water sport activities.  The 2006 WRSI water sports helmet was the initial product entry into the fulfillment of its mission:

“To improve whitewater recreation safety and save lives by disseminating knowledge and improving equipment.”

Our 2007 model, currently in full production and distribution, takes safety to the next level by adding the attachable Ear Protection System (EPS).

Whitewater Technology Associates holds an exclusive license for all products owned and patented by Whitewater Research & Safety Institute.  Currently under research, design and development are the Face and Ear Protector Systems (FEPS) that will come equipped on future helmets, as an option. The systems will work in unison, or with just the Ear Protector System.  The Ear and Face Protection Systems will come with a unique attachment/detachment system that will be easy to use by the helmet wearer.
